Women arrested for assault, property damage after shooting in Jasper – Newstalk KZRG

A woman is being held without bond in the Jasper County Jail following a shooting in Jasper Friday morning.

At 3 a.m. Friday, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office found a man in the front yard of a residence at 606 E. Maiden Lane in Jasper, suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

A woman was also found at the residence.

The Jasper Police Department has taken over the investigation.

Jasper Police said the female subject, Sommer Closser, appeared intoxicated.

Closser allegedly became angry and an argument ensued with the man (her boyfriend) and she brandished a firearm. During a physical struggle between the man and Closser, the firearm was discharged by Closser, striking the man.

Closser allegedly tried to cover up the shooting by putting his hand over the man’s mouth and telling him to say it was an accidental shooting.

Closser was arrested on probable cause for 2nd degree domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

After being arrested, she became combative with deputies, refusing to cooperate and becoming violent. Police say he tried to escape arrest by yanking his wrist from the handcuffs and kicking the door of the patrol car.

Closser was charged with attempted escape from custody (a felony) and criminal damage.

The male victim was transported to Mercy Joplin by ambulance and was treated for a non-life threatening injury.

Closser faces three felony charges and one misdemeanor.

She could also be charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Children’s Center interviews with the children are scheduled for later today.
