Lightning probably causes oil tank battery fire near Winfield

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Lightning is believed to be the cause of an oil tank battery fire east of Winfield Thursday morning.

The fire broke out around 9:15 a.m. and four tank batteries caught fire.

The Winfield Fire Department called an El Dorado Refinery to help fight the fire. Crews are expected to be on the scene by the afternoon.

The nearest address is in the 16300 block of Route 172, but no structures are said to be in danger. No injuries were reported.
