Amarillo Public Libraries offer shelter from extreme heat

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The City of Amarillo Office of Emergency Management and the Amarillo Public Library are offering places to beat the heat.

All five Amarillo Public Library locations are available as cool spots for those looking to escape the summer heat.

“Since the heat is dangerous for many in the community, such as the disabled or the elderly, we wanted to help give our residents a way to escape the heat,” said Director of Library Services Amanda Barrera. “Residents are welcome to come to any of our five library locations across the city and cool off while getting out of the oppressive heat.”

The five Amarillo Public Library locations are:

  • Downtown Library located at 413 SE 4th Avenue
  • Southwest Branch Library, located at 6801 W 45th Avenue
  • East Branch Library, located at 2232 SE 27th Avenue
  • North Branch Library, located at 1500 NE 24th Avenue
  • Northwest Branch Library, located at 6100 SE 9th Avenue

“We are grateful for the cooperation of our city libraries in recognizing this need for the community,” said Emergency Management Director Max Dunlap. “Libraries are really a great resource in many ways, and this is just another example.”
