The Department of Health is recommending the reopening of Sandy Point Beach in Portsmouth

The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) issued a statement recommending the closure of one beach and the reopening of four others.

The beach recommended for closure in Rhode Island due to high bacteria counts is Conimicut Point Beach in Warwick.

RIDOH is recommending the reopening of Sandy Point Beach in Portsmouth, Warren Town Beach, Hope Community Service Pond in Scituate and Briar Point Beach in Coventry to swimming because bacteria counts have returned to safe levels. ​

The health department will continue to monitor water quality at these beaches and make decisions about reopenings as appropriate.

RIDOH will continue to monitor and review beach water quality through Labor Day. The status of a beach may change as new data becomes available. The most up-to-date beach information is available via a recorded message on the RIDOH Beaches Hotline (401-222-2751).
