Weather alert days – extreme heat this weekend

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Once again overnight and into Friday morning, a few storms will move across Kansas with brief, heavy rain and some gusty winds. The odds are low, but if there is a potential for severe weather, it would remain in northwest Kansas.

Look for the chance of a patchy thunderstorm to carry over into Friday morning’s rush hour, then skies will clear into the afternoon movement. Highs will reach the low to mid 90s for much of the state, and southerly winds could gust to around 25.

Dangerous heat blankets the area for the weekend ahead. Saturday and Sunday will have highs near or above 100 degrees, but the addition of high humidity will make it feel like 110 in some places on Saturday and only improve to a heat index of 105 for Sunday. Please stay hydrated and monitor for signs of heat illness if you are heading to the Wichita Air Show.

Cooler temperatures and more rain will come next week. Right now, some of the best chances for storms will come Thursday with a strong cold front on the way.
