Steam Threshers Reunion will roar into Rollag this weekend – InForum

Rollag, Minnesota will see green and yellow this weekend, and it’s not for the North Dakota State University Bison football team. The Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion will highlight John Deere tractors and equipment at its annual Labor Day weekend festivities.

In addition to the giant steam engines that bear the event’s name, this celebration of the area’s agricultural history will feature a variety of gas engine equipment, from tractors to other heavy machinery. There will be scale models for children to learn how engines work, a steam powered sawmill, a blacksmith foundry, tractors, daily parades and of course demonstrations of threshing, plowing and field work to see how farms worked 100 years ago. Other highlights will include the selection of a steam queen, daily style shows and nightly sparklers after dark. Gates open daily at 6:00am. After he died on August 12, Jeffrey Fonder was remembered for being a smiling face at Dempsey’s Public House as well as a vocal supporter of the musical acts that played there. On Friday night, many of these bands will play a free concert to celebrate the bartender’s life. Music for Fonder will include Meat Shoe, Crary Method, Mikeydlooper, and headliner Les Dirty Frenchmen’s first show in over a year. The music will start at 20:30

Scheels Arena will switch from hockey sticks to classic rock act Styx on Friday night. For a decade beginning in the mid-1970s, the quintet was a radio standard with its mix of ballads and powerful anthems, from 1973’s “Lady” to “Mr. Roboto,” from the group’s concept album, “Kilroy was Here.” The group, which also includes guitarists Tommy Shaw and James Young, will perform the hits. Friday will be a good day for Ice Cube fans. Although he’s been busier as an actor over the past decade, the rapper will return to perform live on the MIDCO Stage at Essentia Health Plaza at The Lights in West Fargo. Along with his biggest hits like “It Was a Good Day,” “Check You Self” and “You Know How We Do It,” Ice Cube returned to his NWA days and performed “Straight Outta Compton” and ” Gangsta”.
