Newark Catholic’s Lattimer, Heath’s Kelly golf well at Moundbuilders

Caylee Lattimer shot a record 35 for the Newark Catholic girls golf team on Wednesday, and Heath’s Reagan Kelly was just behind at 36 in a double at Moundbuilders Country Club.

Samantha Spearman followed with a 44 and Sadie Eagle 53 for the Green Wave, who totaled 199. Peyton Lawson at 45 and Peighton Wills at 56 followed for the Bulldogs, who totaled 201.

GOLF BOYS

Gilbert shoots 36

Ty Gilbert shot a 36 at Darby Creek during an Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division nine-hole event.

Gilbert tied for second place individually. Adam Tucker followed with a 45, Jaden Sines 48 and Brayden Koby 49 for the Wildcats, who finished fifth with a 178 total.

GIRLS FOOTBALL

Northridge squeezes the Valley

Freshman Cora Hill scored the first three goals of her career to lift Northridge to a 3-2 win at Licking Valley in Licking County League play.

Hill scored the game-tying goal and completed her hat trick off an assist from Ava Travis for the Vikings (2-2, 1-2). Lily Hill also recorded an assist and Ava Kercher made seven saves.

Bella Reynard and Makenna Ball each scored a goal for the Panthers (3-2, 2-2).

Granville beats Heath

Granville (4-0, 3-0) went undefeated on the young season with an 11-0 win at Heath in LCL play.

Sophia Yanka made 20 saves for the Bulldogs (0-4, 0-3).

GIRLS TENNIS

Watkins wins

Watkins Memorial swept the doubles matches on Tuesday in a 4-1 win over Mount Vernon.

Payton Zerkle and Eva Barbour, 8-2, at No. 1 and Lidia Sanchez and Bella Workman, 8-7, at No. 2, won the doubles matches.

No. 1 No. 8-5 Nora Grennan and 8-1 No. 2 Kaiya Minier won singles matches for the Warriors.

VOLLEY-BALL

Watkins falls home

Riley Buechner had 12 kills and 22 assists for Watkins Memorial on Tuesday in a loss to Mount Vernon (2-3, 2-1), 25-12, 19-25, 25-18, 25- 22, in LCL-Buckeye Division Play.

Adalyn Rhodes added 10 digs and five blocks, Paige Freeman six blocks, Ella Barbour three aces and Samantha Speakman 17 digs for the Warriors (1-5, 1-2).
