Lady Tigers stay perfect with win over Washington

The McClain Lady Tigers soccer moved to 5-0 on the season with another shutout, this one a 4-0 win over Frontier Athletic Conference foe Washington in Greenfield on Tuesday night.

McClain, who has been as warm as the weather has been recently, battled 90⁰ temperatures to shut out an opponent for the fourth time this year, which is an impressive feat to say the least.

“I thought we played well in the first half today, but we just couldn’t punch it in,” McClain head coach Blain Bergstrom said. “I don’t know how many shots we had on goal today, but there were a lot.

“We looked good, but like I said, I just couldn’t put it in the back of the net.”

The Lady Tigers took a 2-0 lead into halftime on goals by Paisley Pryor and Mylie Lovett, and their defense was superb in the first 40 minutes, limiting Washington to just three shots on goal.

“Nobody scored on us all year in live time and the only goal we gave up was on a free kick, so our defense really doesn’t get the credit it deserves,” Bergstrom said. “We have four juniors in there and they’ve done a really good job of rotating when they’ve had to.”

McClain’s defense continued to be perfect in the second half and the offense got two more goals from Pryor to give her her second straight hat trick as the Lady Tigers pulled out a 4-0 victory.

“This was another good, positive win for us and our defense wasn’t really threatened and Kenzie (Wise) didn’t have to make any tough saves tonight,” Bergstrom said. “Now that hump we have to get over is beating Jackson down there on Thursday night. They have another strong team and a solid schedule, but I think our girls will be ready to play.

“We’re 5-0 and the girls are playing really well right now, so I can’t complain too much about that.”

The Lady Tigers travel to Jackson on Thursday, August 29th with an 8:00pm start time against the FAC champion Ironladies.
