Loaded ghost gun with 50-round clip found in Springfield traffic stop, police say

A Chicopee man, who police say drove past a stop sign, was arrested last Friday afternoon after Springfield police searched his car and — according to the department — found hundreds of bags of heroin and a loaded ghost gun with a 50-round magazine inside.

Around 6:15 pm on Aug. 23, Springfield police said they arrested 38-year-old Alexander Negron near Exit 6 on I-91 North.

The police said in a Facebook message posted Thursday that they saw a vehicle driving past a stop sign and speeding near Wilcox Street. The officers caught up to the vehicle and put on their emergency lights. The vehicle then sped up before it got caught in traffic and the police pulled it over near Exit 6.

The driver, later identified as Negron, was arrested, police said. Officers found over $1,500, 60 bags of suspected heroin and 14 bags of suspected crack cocaine, weighing around 40 grams.

Inside the vehicle, 200 more bags of heroin were found along with a loaded ghost gun with a 50-round magazine under the driver’s seat, police said.

Negron has prior convictions for heroin distribution and twice for assault and battery of a police officer, the police added. He was charged with 10 crimes including carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a high-capacity magazine/feeding device and cocaine trafficking – 36-100 grams.
