A serious collision is snarling traffic on I-75 in Fayette County. The coroner was called to the scene.

One person was killed and two were injured in a serious collision on southbound Interstate 75 at mile marker 102 in Lexington Saturday afternoon.

The Lexington Police Department received a call about a reckless driver heading south on I-75 around 4:15 p.m., said Lt. Matt Merker. The accident, involving three passenger vehicles, was reported shortly after.

One person was found dead inside a vehicle and two people were taken to hospital. One of them has life-threatening injuries and the other has non-life-threatening injuries, Merker said.

All southbound lanes of I-75 remained closed as of 6:30 p.m., but Merker said he expects the road to be at least partially reopened soon.

Southbound traffic was being diverted from the freeway to Athens-Boonesborough Road at exit 104, Merker said.

He said the northbound lanes were not affected.

The Kentucky Department of Transportation reported heavy traffic in the area.

Merker said the Lexington Fire Department assisted a person who suffered a diabetic emergency while stuck in traffic.
