Elon Musk does indeed have an AI-powered robot girlfriend

Elon Musk is behind some of the biggest companies in the world, and those companies have produced technology that truly pushes the final frontier. Like SpaceX rockets that can leave the planet, or Starlink’s satellite internet that can launch an article about whether Elon Musk has a robot girlfriend right on his lap almost anywhere in the world.

But did Musk manage to create a robot girlfriend? Some online posters claim he did, though not very seriously. The images behind the claims are clearly not real and no one is trying too hard to sell the story.

Musk’s public image has recently been defined more by his relentless posting on X after buying and rebranding Twitter, as well as a very public political radicalization in which he spiraled deeper into a whirlwind of posts fascist and reactionary memes.

But there was a time when, thanks to his electric car company Tesla, Musk was known as an inoffensive science lord who was going to take humanity to Mars, solve climate change and spread new technologies around the globe – for the sake of memes and lovers of trade science on the internet.

And at that time, he was also walking. Musk is not a lifelong monogamist. He has 11 known children by three different mothers, according to Business Insider. He was publicly involved for years with musician Grimes, with whom he has at least three confirmed children. Last September, she posted, then deleted, tweets asking Musk to see her son. She then sued Musk last October for custody, claiming he was preventing her from seeing her children.

Musk also had five children with his first wife, Justine Musk, and three children with a Neuralink executive, Shivon Zilis.

But in early August of this year, photos and AI-generated claims began to go viral about Musk’s latest alleged flame.

Where did the rumors about Elon Musk’s robot girlfriend come from?

A thread posted on August 8 by @holistic_remedies_9 spread a conspiracy-laden narrative about an AI-generated photo of Musk in a restaurant next to a blond, shiny-faced human head sitting on a robot body, complete with wires exposed and a shiny. chrome exterior.

“They say Elon Musk actually announced this as his girlfriend,” a man explained in a video above him. “This is artificial intelligence, for those who cannot see it. This is a pure announcement of transhumanism at its best.”

Unchecked

Along with Instagram, the photo also went viral on Facebook and X, according to a check by Politifact.

“Elon Musk announced his first artificial intelligence robot girlfriend. Musk said he took her out to dinner and enjoyed talking to her, calling her smart, beautiful and obedient…Wow, that’s so crazy!!” a since-deleted Facebook post read since August 10, captioning the photo #AIGirlfriend, #elonmusk, and #ai, along with other popular viral hashtags.

Last year, rumors that Elon Musk had a cyborg girlfriend were sparked by AI photos of Musk dancing and kissing various female robots. The images don’t look that realistic, but France24’s fact-checking team dedicated a segment to them.

During that round of robot girlfriend rumors, trolls claimed that Musk had actually created a robot wife called Catnilla that is solar-powered and doesn’t need to be charged, has positive and negative emotions, and is powered by artificial intelligence.

France24 found that in this case, some of the images were generated by the same guy who caused images of Pope Francis in a puffer jacket.

In reality, Musk hasn’t come anywhere close to inventing any robots, despite promising to do so. In 2021, TeslaBot’s presentation was widely criticized for featuring a human in a robot suit. However, he said the full robot will be unveiled in a year.

Which didn’t happen, unless Musk secretly kept her as a friend this whole time.
