London (UK), September 1 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday extended greetings to Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov on the country’s independence day.

Jaishankar said he is committed to taking India-Uzbekistan strategic partnership to new heights.

In a post on X, he said: “Warm greetings to Bakhtiyor Saidov and the government and people of Uzbekistan on their Independence Day. We are committed to taking our strategic partnership to new heights.”

Jaishankar highlighted the recent high-level interactions between the leaders of the two nations and said the 13th Bilateral Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation was held in July 2022 in Delhi.

He said that the 16th India-Uzbekistan Foreign Ministry consultations were held in Tashkent in August 2023.

Highlighting sectors of economic cooperation, Jaishankar said Indian companies have invested in Uzbekistan in pharmaceuticals, hospitality, auto components and amusement parks.

As part of the partnership for development measures, India opened ICT classrooms in 125 schools in the Syrdarya region in August this year.

As part of defense cooperation, the fifth edition of the Joint Exercise Dustlik was held at the Termes training area in April this year.

Jaishankar said that under cooperation for capacity building, health and education, a delegation of youth from Central Asian countries visited India in March this year. More than 2,500 Uzbek professionals have received training under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation. Indian Council for Cultural Relations and Kendriya Hindi Sansthan scholarships are available to Uzbek students. 8,000 Uzbeks seek medical treatment in India annually. Amity University and Sharda University opened campuses in Tashkent and Andijan respectively.

Talking about the cultural bond and diaspora, Jaishankar said around 11,000 Indian nationals live in Uzbekistan. 4,000 Indians study medicine in Uzbekistan. India is a growing source of tourists for Uzbekistan, with around 12,000 tourists expected to visit in 2022. The 10th International Yoga Day celebration was held in Tashkent. (YEAR)
