U of L fans react to the first football game of the season

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Ahead of Saturday’s home opener for the U of L football team against Austin Peay some fans were set up outside L&N Stadium since the early hours of the morning.

For one fan, Charlie Holzman and his friends football Saturday’s are a tradition.

“A group of friends, we bought this bus, we converted it, we got a flat screen TV and a generator,” Holzman said. “We come and tailgate with about 30 people and we have a great time every game,”

Holzman said he and his friends named their group the “Cards Party Fraternity.”

It was a family affair for many, like Robin Wolfe who has been coming to U of L games for the last 25 years and is a lifelong season ticket holder.

“It’s all about the people, all about the fans, it’s all about supporting Brohm, supporting the new year, supporting the team,” Wolfe said

Speaking of Coach Jeff Brohm as he heads into his second season as the U of L football coach, hopes are high for what could be in the coming years with one fan calling it the “Brohm era.”

“This is the greatest time to be a University of Louisville fan,” JJ Corbett said. “This year we will be the ACC champions, we will go to a decent bowl game, and in the next four years we will be the national champions.”
