Chandler Police are mourning the death of retired patrol K-9 Bako

CHANDLER, AZ (AZ Family) — The Chandler police community has heavy hearts after saying goodbye to one of their retired police dogs.

K-9 Bako died Tuesday, police said, but did not say how.

He spent 10 years with the department, working as a patrol dog as well as bomb detection.

Bako helped protect the lives of his handlers, Sgt. Mike Armentrout and retired officer Ron Emary.

Police said the dog “served the Chandler community with unwavering loyalty and courage.”

“His courage, dedication and companionship will never be forgotten,” the department said.
