Sod Poodles fall to Midland in Game 1 of road series

MIDLAND, Texas (KFDA) – The Midland RockHounds defeated the Amarillo Sod Poodles 5-2 on Wednesday night.

It was a pitcher’s duel for the first four innings as Midland’s Mason Barnett and Amarillo’s Spencer Giesting held it scoreless. However, the RockHounds finally drew first blood on an RBI single from Denzel Clarke in the bottom of the fifth.

Amarillo answered quickly in the top of the sixth with an RBI single of their own, coming from AJ Vukovich.

In the bottom of the sixth, things unraveled for the Soddies. Daniel Susac hit a solo homer to retake the lead for Midland, and Jack Winkler followed with a two-RBI single to make it 4-1.

Caleb Roberts and Will Simpson each hit solo homers in the eighth inning to give each team one more run on the board before the end, but that would be all she wrote.

Midland now leads the series 1-0. Games 2 and 3 are scheduled for a Thursday night doubleheader with the first game beginning at 5:00 PM CST.
